Standard wastage is 10 percent for straight grid layouts and 15 percent for diagonal or herringbone, but most first-timers forget that AND forget that tiles ship in dye-lot batches — order short, go back next month, and the new box will be a visibly different shade in good light. Calculate full area plus wastage plus one spare box, all from the same batch, all delivered together. The other quiet trap is grout: 6 mm joints look modern but use 50 percent more grout than 3 mm joints, and rectified-edge tiles need the narrower joint to look right.
