• Allow location access when the browser asks — that's how the bearing personalises to where you actually are. If you'd rather not share location, the manual city/country picker gives accurate bearings for major cities without needing GPS at all.
• On iPhone, enable Live mode and tap 'Allow' when iOS asks for motion-sensor permission — that's what activates the rotating compass arrow. On Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox) it works automatically. Desktop browsers without a magnetometer still show the bearing in degrees, just without the live needle.
• The bearing here is from true north. Phone compass apps sometimes default to magnetic north and can be off by a few degrees depending on your region's magnetic declination. For prayer most scholars accept that small offset; for higher precision, your phone's settings usually have a 'true north' toggle.
• Don't be thrown when the Qibla from North America points northeast or even north — it isn't pointing at a flat-map straight line to Saudi Arabia. The great-circle path on a sphere takes the shortest arc, which curves over the pole region for high-latitude western locations. The math is correct; the intuition from flat maps is what's misleading.
• Once loaded, the page works offline — the bearing is computed entirely in your browser with no further network calls. Bookmark it or install as a PWA, and you have a Qibla finder that keeps working at the masjid, on a flight, or anywhere with patchy reception.
